  • blessed

Last Friday was my birthday, and it was an incredible day. I was just too tired to write about it, but after finishing midterms this wednesday, I got a few days of rest :] hooray.

I am so blessed! in every way. sometimes I think life is too good to be true, that's there's no way God loves me this much, but he does. He's lead me to a wonderful tight-knit fellowship (AACF), small group, a many number of vision-focused churches that I can't choose from at this point (though I'm leaning towards Redeemer Presbyterian, tim keller's church?), interesting and funny professors, a good amount of learning, an overamount of food (i should stop eating quiznos everyday), the best roommates, the most amazing God :]

Back to my birthday - My mom came and ate lunch with me :] bearing gifts! x_x so nice. Then I went to work at the computer lab, and friends came to visit/drag me out to dinner, one of them ever so QUICKLY stealing the check. wow. that was real ninja skill right there...! Thai food was good, but I got free ice cream from Coldstone afterwards :P Then my other friend offered to buy me converses (he loves loves converse) but my size wasn't available. oh well :) It was fun. Then, when I thought my lovely day was about to end, I called up one of my small group leaders wanting to go to the library and study. Sure, she said, and I'll walk you there with another friend. So we walked to the library...Let's keep walking, I think your other small group leader is waiting over there, she said. So we walked a few steps...and voila, out of the BUSHES comes the majority of my fellowship waiting with an ice cream cake (mint chocolate chip, my favorite) with 19 bright and shining candles! SURPRISE :] my goodness I was so shocked. I have never had a surprise party before !! XD Thanks, guys, thanks so much!

My friend Venus got me a devo bookk, My utmost for his highest. It's a classic, have any of you read it before?  Albert got me the new relient K CD. I highly recommend it :P especially  'forget and slow down'.

Now all I need is a camera. *sigh* and wcecyg friends :/ i miss you everyday.

The city is a very mixed place. There are cute kids once in a while, but mostly cute dogs that make me smile inside. They make the city seem somewhat innocent. Yes, there are hobos and sketchy guys selling me fruit rollups for charity (i bought 3) and sirens at night that make me feel scary and thankful at night, as well as themed parties in the dorm across my hall (of course they never invite me, hehe), but there's that pretty fountain and park 2 blocks from my dorm, the endless variety of food places and shopping places(bad!), people who will throw away a pack of cigarettes because you gave them a sad face and lecture (only to end up smoking again a few days later!), late night studying bonding, the biggest bookstore ever, God sightings, and starbucks signature hot chocolate.

  • yay :)

got my first paycheck! i really want to buy a camera now :( not a dslr, but a superhighend point and shoot. any suggestions? :) the battle between sony and canon is still on xP

so I kinda started this ridiculous madness here at NYU when i bought a $28 dollar pair of rainboots from marc jacobs. the word spread, and now more than several of my friends have them. haha we should all wear them on the same day and look like a rainbow...

speaking of which, i was eating at a cafe the other day and i thought to myself, wow! i'm eating in a cafe by myself, (reading the bible actually, trying to pass time) just like in the movies x) haha. i guess i'm just easily amused...what else have i done for the first time? jaywalking a lot. having "one of those really really busy days" everyday (this doesn't happen if you go to a school other than nyu). having my friend drop my laptop which now has a dent in it xD seeing someone drunk and not quite believing it at all o_o. staring at security camera monitors, which i'm doing right now during work haha xD i can see everything!!

so i'm in nyu stern yearbook. here come the deadlines. we have ... less than 10 people on our staff :) rofl. but the book is only for seniors, and the staff gets one for free. and it's FULL COLOR can you believe it?!

    i'm never doing investment banking.

so i heard everyone is sick. get well soon, eddie and jia and billy's foot :) i will be praying for you guys.

  • conversation on 3rd avenue with a semi-hobo

-hello, excuse me, do you speak english? (young man in a semi-mexican accent with a sad face)
    -yes.
-um..i'm trying to get to...Columbus, ...Ohio? Columbus. Do you know how to get there?
    -Ohio, ohio the state?
    -yes...
-That's so far! You'd have to take an airplane.
    -..or a greyhound bus, right
-yeah...I don't know much about greyhound stations here, but if you look them up on the internet, i'm sure you can search up locations that take you to ohio.
-well, you see, i need 2.80 to get a ticket? a ticket...
-for the bus? a ticket costs much more than that! well...umm...i don't really have any money with me right now...
-well um, you see, i'm trying to collect money to buy a ticket because i'm stranded...
    -do you have a job?
    -no...i'm on disability - i got 800 a month and i'm broke.
-oh...you know what, you should find a temporary job here :) I'm sure you can work for a while and then get enough money to go to ohio.
    -how old are you?
    -18
    -oh, you just turned 18?
    -...no, not really.
-do you want to see me again?
    -i don't think that's safe, because i don't know you.
    -oh, you're being cautious..
-i was told to be cautious :P
    -well okay...i'll miss you
-miss you *walks away quickly since i have to get to the job center..*

moral of the story: buy sunglasses to look more intimidating on the streets. >_<

college has been really eye opening for me :) I've visited several churches including the famous redeemer with tim keller (he wrote the reason for god) (he PWNS! his logic is impeccable and his style very clear) and each and every one offers something different as compared to wcec xD haha. the first one i visited, morningstar, had an incredible praise team that sounded just like hillsong, maybe even more passionate 0-o they had an electric violin too. the next church i visited, remnant westside, was just as booming-loud as morning star but less vocalists/instruments and instead a very expressive audience. At Redeemer, we simply sang modern hymns that again, pwned. :) the sermons were all more emotional/passionate as compared to wcec, some jumped around, some were very orderly, and one was simply on fire.

so i got my lab assistant job, i'm working 12 hours a week :P there's so many LEGIT clubs here too (charter clubs and newspaper seem like doing nothing in comparison) so i'm surely going to be so busy...once again. oh well :) i got lots of sleep last night, and I know all this is just going to have me depend on God more, which is always great. the fellowships i've visited had wonderful people! so awesome and funny and welcoming :) oh yeah....and there's so much to eat in college, as well as free food. if anyone visits we're going to get yummy ramen and bubble tea. i also feel like every day in the city is making me more materialistic, but my small budget makes it so i can't become too idiotic. thank God.

help me out: how would great gatsby be different if narrated by someone other than nick? (tom, daisy, jordan, gatsby himself)?
